PTB’s Survey of the Best Duran Duran Tribute Bands
Few bands defined the look and sound of the MTV era like Duran Duran. From “Planet Earth” and “Girls on Film” on their 1981 self-titled debut album to the Rio record and the chart-topping “The Reflex” off Seven and the Ragged Tiger, the Birmingham, UK five-piece of Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, Roger Taylor, and Andy Taylor turned new wave into stadium-sized pop and never really left the stage. It is no surprise that some of the most ambitious tribute bands in the world have built their shows around that catalog.
For this survey, PTB looked past the karaoke-night acts and focused on the tribute bands that get the hard parts right: Nick Rhodes-style layered synths, John Taylor’s slap-bass groove, Simon Le Bon’s vocal phrasing, and the visual style that is half of the Duran Duran experience. We weighed musicianship, authenticity, setlist and song selection, production value, stagecraft, and a real record of touring and gigs.
We come at this as working musicians. PTB founder David Victor went from fronting a tribute act to touring with the real BOSTON, so we know firsthand what separates a great tribute from a forgettable one: real talent and genuine homage, not just a costume and a backing track.
Here are the Duran Duran tribute bands we rate the highest, starting with the act leading the field.
New Moon on Monday
When it comes to Duran Duran tributes in North America, New Moon on Monday sits at the top of the list. The San Francisco Bay Area band takes its name from the “New Moon on Monday” single off Seven and the Ragged Tiger, and has been performing Duran Duran’s music live since 2010, building a touring footprint and a following that most tribute bands never reach. They have headlined and sold out rooms from The Blue Note in Hawaii to San Francisco’s Regency Ballroom, and carried the show internationally to events like Nostalgia Fest in Ottawa.
What sets them apart is range and polish. The set moves from the fiery Rio-album hits, “Hungry Like the Wolf,” “Rio,” and “Save a Prayer,” through “Girls on Film” and atmospheric deep cuts like “The Chauffeur,” into the grown-up beauty of “Ordinary World,” all delivered with the glamour and precision the real band is known for. For festivals, casinos, theaters, and corporate events that want a Duran Duran experience built to fill a stage, New Moon on Monday is the one to book.
Rio: A Tribute to Duran Duran
Out of Los Angeles, Rio: A Tribute to Duran Duran was formed by fans, for fans, and has earned a reputation as one of the West Coast’s premier Duran Duran acts. They lean into the full Sing Blue Silver era spectacle: the looks, the lighting, and a setlist built around the 1982 Rio album and the records that made Duran Duran MTV royalty.
Their live show captures the band at its arena peak, with the hooks of “Rio,” “Hungry Like the Wolf,” and “Save a Prayer” landing exactly the way a Duran Duran crowd wants them. If you are in Southern California and want a polished, high-energy tribute, Rio belongs on your shortlist.
The Reflex
Based out of Atlanta, The Reflex takes its name from Duran Duran’s 1984 number-one single, and brings a live-performance, multimedia tribute to one of the most enduring bands of the MTV era. The visuals are a real part of the show, with era-accurate imagery that turns a set into something closer to a full Duran Duran concert experience.
Musically they cover the sweep of the catalog, from “Rio” to the ballad territory of “Ordinary World,” and their growing live video catalog shows a band that takes the synth textures and vocal phrasing seriously. For event buyers in the Southeast, The Reflex is a strong, well-produced option.
Double Duran
Billing itself as The Ultimate Duran Duran Experience, Double Duran goes all in on the new-wave-pop spectacle. Their 2026 production is genuinely striking, built to drop a room straight back into the early-MTV era with the wardrobe, staging, and sound to match.
The emphasis is on faithfulness to the Rio and Seven and the Ragged Tiger era: the synth tones, the rhythm-section groove, and the vocal swagger that a Duran Duran tribute lives or dies on. For a tribute that treats the visual side as seriously as the music, Double Duran delivers.
Arena
Arena, named for Duran Duran’s 1984 live album, is Southern California’s premier up-and-coming Duran Duran tribute, and the freshest act on this list. Their newest 4K live footage shows a band already operating at a high level: tight, modern-sounding, and clearly built for the stage rather than the rehearsal room.
As a rising act they are worth watching, and worth booking while they are still a regional secret. Buyers in the SoCal market who want energy and current production value should keep Arena on the radar.
Ordinary World
Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, Ordinary World delivers a heartfelt tribute to the legendary British band, named for one of Duran Duran’s most beloved later hits, the 1993 single from the album fans call The Wedding Album. The Midwest act focuses on capturing the emotional range of the catalog, not just the dance-floor singles.
Their live take on “Ordinary World” shows a group comfortable with the band’s more atmospheric material, the part of Duran Duran that ages best. For Midwest theaters and clubs, Ordinary World is a solid, sincere choice.
Duran Decade
Duran Decade brings the Duran Duran songbook to Midwest stages, including historic rooms like Ron Onesti’s Des Plaines Theater in Illinois. Their 2026 live “Rio” shows a band comfortable in a proper theater setting, playing to a crowd that knows every word.
It is a meat-and-potatoes tribute in the best sense: the hits, from “Rio” to “Notorious,” played well, in venues built for them. For Illinois-area programmers, Duran Decade is a dependable booking.
Tiger Tiger
Out of Seattle, Tiger Tiger is one of the Pacific Northwest’s Duran Duran tributes, a fixture of the region’s new-wave scene. Their live “The Reflex” captures the snap and bounce that made the original a number-one record.
For a tribute rooted in the new-wave revival crowd, Tiger Tiger has the catalog, from the Rio singles to “Notorious,” and the credibility. Pacific Northwest buyers looking for an authentic 80s night will be well served.
Duran Duran Duran
With a name that triples down on the fun, Duran Duran Duran carries the flag in the Mountain West, playing full-concert-length sets like their show at Daybreak in South Jordan, Utah. They give audiences the whole arc of a Duran Duran night, debut-album new wave through the Notorious funk years, rather than a quick hits medley.
For festivals and community concerts across Utah and the surrounding region, Duran Duran Duran is a full-value, full-length tribute.
SKIN TRADE
For the international entry, look to SKIN TRADE, billed as the only Duran Duran tribute in southern Italy and one of Europe’s most prolific. Out of Palermo, they have built a deep live catalog spanning “Ordinary World,” the title track from 1986’s Notorious, “The Chauffeur,” and beyond.
Their performances show real care for the synth-and-guitar interplay at the heart of Duran Duran’s sound. SKIN TRADE is proof that the band’s appeal, and the tributes it inspires, truly reach around the globe.
